    What You’ll Learn

This course offers a comprehensive look into the mechanisms of research visibility, moving beyond simple citation counts to explore a holistic set of visibility strategies to maximise research visibility. Learners will explore the strengths and limitations of traditional bibliometrics, such as the h-index and Impact Factor, while also being introduced to the growing field of altmetrics. The course provides step-by-step guidance on managing researcher identities across major databases and concludes with the development of a tailored research visibility plan.

This course consists of the following three modules:

    1. Tracking Your Metrics

    2. Maximising Your Coverage

    3. Increasing Your Visibility

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

✓ Identify and evaluate several key bibliometric indicators, including researcher-level metrics and altmetrics.

✓ Interpret metrics from Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science, and altmetric tools.

✓ Use author IDs and research profiles effectively across platforms.

✓ Apply ethical strategies to increase the visibility of work.

✓ Develop and apply a personal research visibility plan.

    Who It’s For

This course is designed for early career researchers to apply strategies which they can use throughout their careers to ensure their research enjoys the desired traction and reach. As such, the course is also highly relevant for established researchers looking to update their knowledge on best practices and new strategies in responsible metrics use and management of their digital researcher identities.

    Get Prepared

No prior knowledge of bibliometrics is needed to complete this course. The course is fully self-paced and can be followed at learners’ own pace. The course includes several opportunities for in-course practice as well as the creation of a detailed tailored research visibility action plan. These activities can be completed on a mobile device, tablet, or laptop.
