Advanced Statistical Concepts

Intro

Advanced Statistical Concepts is the third and final course in the three-course Statistics for Non-Statisticians knowledge track. This course builds upon Intermediate Statistical Concepts by introducing more complex concepts such as regression techniques, multifactorial analyses, interaction, confounding and adjusted analyses.

What You'll Learn

• How to conduct a two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlation, linear regression

• How to determine logistic regression and analysis of covariance

• How to engage with multiple regression, dummy variables, and confounding interpretations

This course consists of the following three modules:

1. ANOVA, Correlation and Linear Regression

2. Logistic Regression, Multiple Regression, Analysis of Covariance

3. Confounding

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

✓ Carry out multi-factorial analyses with measured and/or categorical factors

✓ Identify the presence of interaction between factors and interpret results accordingly

✓ Use continuous measured factors to model measured and categorical outcomes

✓ Appreciate the advantage of adjusted analyses and perform them appropriately

✓ Recognize the danger confounding when interpreting statistical findings and be able to detect its presence

Who It's For

These courses are particularly relevant for researchers and academics who have limited experience working with statistical concepts.

Get Prepared

We recommend you complete Basic Statistical Concepts and Intermediate Statistical Concepts before starting this online course.

This knowledge track explores PSPP, a free software application for the analysis of sampled data. We provide downloadable data sets for PSPP, so you can apply your skills within the application immediately.

This knowledge track also includes practical, interactive worksheets. To engage with the course fully, we recommend you use a laptop.

Course Expert(s)

Dr. Philip Rowe

Dr. Philip Rowe is an author and former lecturer from Liverpool John Moores University, where he acted as academic faculty for more than 25 years. Throughout his career, he has taught clinical statistics, pharmacokinetics, and epidemiology to students and outside bodies (Professional and industrial).

He has analysed data in the fields of quantitative structure-activity relationships, pharmaceutical science, and pharmacy practice. He enjoys teaching mathematically based subjects to non-mathematicians in the biosciences in higher education and industry. His specialties include clinical statistics, pharmacokinetics, and epidemiology.
